As we head into what’s forecasted to be an above-average 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, now is the time to take proactive steps to protect your home, family, and finances. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30, and this year’s forecast calls for 17 named storms, nine hurricanes, and four major hurricanes, according to Colorado State University’s TC RAMS team led by Dr. Phil Klotzbach.

That’s more activity than the historical average of 14 named storms and three major hurricanes — and with more people living along the Gulf Coast than ever before, hurricane preparedness should be a top priority for residents across Alabama and the southeastern U.S.

As Triple-I CEO Sean Kevelighan stated during National Hurricane Preparedness Week (May 4–10):

“With more Americans living in harm’s way than ever before, it is critical for everyone residing in a hurricane-prone community to make preparedness a priority for the upcoming season.”

At Trinity Home Inspections, we couldn’t agree more. Being ready doesn’t just mean boarding up windows — it means planning ahead, protecting your investment, and understanding your insurance coverage before the storm hits.

🏠 Trinity’s 2025 Hurricane Preparedness Tips

1. Review Your Insurance Coverage

  • Confirm you have adequate homeowners or renters insurance, especially with construction costs up over 55% since 2019.

  • Make sure your policy covers the full cost to rebuild, replace belongings, and cover temporary housing if needed.

  • Don’t forget: Flood insurance is separate — and 90% of U.S. natural disasters involve flooding. Learn more about this special insurance at FEMA.

2. Inspect & Secure Your Property

  • Schedule a pre-season home inspection to check for vulnerabilities in your roof, windows, foundation, and drainage systems.

  • Check your gutters and downspouts to make sure water is being directed away from your home.

  • Reinforce garage doors, secure loose fencing, and store outdoor furniture ahead of any storm.

3. Create a Family Emergency Plan

  • Know your evacuation zone and routes.

  • Prepare a hurricane kit with essentials: food, water, medications, flashlights, batteries, chargers, and important documents.

  • Have a communication plan with loved ones in case you’re separated.

4. Digitize & Back Up Important Records

  • Store digital copies of insurance policies, ID, photos of belongings, and your home’s condition for any potential claims.

5. Stay Informed

  • Use apps and local alerts (like FEMA, NOAA, or your county’s emergency services) to receive up-to-date storm tracking and evacuation orders.

2025 is expected to be an active hurricane season — but being prepared puts you in control. Whether you’re a homeowner, renter, or property investor along the Gulf Coast, now is the time to get ahead of the storm.
