A Virginia man accused of committing fraud across multiple states has been apprehended in Kanawha County, West Virginia. Authorities say the suspect, 65-year-old Jerry Buracker of Stanley, Virginia, allegedly posed as a building inspector to carry out his crimes.

According to a criminal complaint, Buracker was detained following an investigation into a fraudulent check worth $850 that was cashed at a credit union in Charleston, West Virginia. Charleston police officers stated that they met with the victim on April 10, who reported the incident. After reviewing surveillance footage and documentation from credit union employees, police positively identified Buracker as the individual who cashed the stolen check.

The suspect allegedly gained access to West Virginia University (WVU) buildings by pretending to be a building inspector. Once inside, officials claim he stole personal checks and tricked campus employees into signing off on fake work orders. Buracker then reportedly used the signatures to cash the checks at local banks.

West Virginia University had issued a community notice about Buracker prior to his arrest. University officials also revealed that the suspect was wanted on no fewer than 11 outstanding warrants in other states for alleged theft and fraud.

Currently, Buracker is facing charges of forgery in Charleston and is being held at the South Central Regional Jail.
